San Jose, Calif. (December 18, 2015) – The Associated General Contractors of California, the state’s largest professional trade group of general contractors, recently awarded Blach Construction Company its prestigious Construction Safety Excellence Award, 1st Place, at its annual conference in Palm Springs, Calif.
This is the fifth year in the last seven years that the company has received the first place award in its size category (250,000 to 500,000 work hours). Presented by AGC, the Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) recognizes companies with exceptional safety and loss prevention programs and safety performance.
“What a great honor to be recognized at both the state and national levels for our safety program this year,” commented Mike Holland, Blach’s director of environmental health and safety. “Our safety record all starts with our employees’ commitment to safety. It is by our people’s diligent efforts that we have been able to continuously achieve these results.”
“We are thrilled to win this award,” noted Mike Blach, president & CEO. “Our company works hard to make sure everyone goes home healthy every day, and this award validates not only our exceptional results, but our systems and culture.”
In fact, this past month Blach Construction surpassed the 2 million hour mark without a recordable lost-time injury, a first in the company’s history.
To qualify for the CSEA, each applicant was reviewed for its commitment to safety, occupational health management and risk control. Applicants were also required to complete application forms and submit to local AGC chapters.
At the same event, Lee Jetton, one of Blach’s superintendents, was recognized as a finalist in the award category that recognizes individual superintendents for their commitment to safety and record. In addition, Blach’s recently completed San Jose State University Student Wellness Center project was also named among the top three 2015 project finalists for demonstrated safety efforts.
This award has further enhanced the company’s reputation in the safety arena. In April, Blach won the 3rd place CSEA award at the national level.
