Santa Clara, Calif. – (June 19, 2013) – Santa Clara-based general contractor Blach Construction Company is pleased to announce that Dominic Silvia, Director of IT Services, was recently selected to receive the “Rising Star / Future CIO” award, presented by the Silicon Valley Business Journal and San Francisco Business Times.

Two years ago, the Silicon Valley Business Journal and San Francisco Business Times created the Bay Area Chief Information Officer (CIO) Awards.  The event brings together some of the most highly regarded businesses and nonprofits in Silicon Valley and recognizes the leaders within these companies who are driving change through information technology and innovation.

During the ceremony hosted at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose last week, Silvia was one of three finalists to vie for the “Rising Star / Future CIO” prize.   In addition to these individuals, 16 more finalists were in the running to win five other awards, including “Community Champion,” “Public Company,” “Private Company,” “Innovation / Transformation” and “Judge’s Choice.”

The nomination criteria for the CIO Awards include demonstrated innovative use of IT to create competitive advantage, optimize business processes and enable growth.  In addition, nominees must show initiative to go above and beyond the regular scope of duties as well as setting the bar higher for competitors.

“We rely on technology so much more than people think,” said Dan Rogers, Executive Vice President and COO at Blach.  “During his tenure with Blach, Dom has spearheaded multiple technological improvements across the company, helping us automate numerous processes to work more efficiently and cost-effectively, enabling us to provide even greater value to our customers.”

Blach Construction Company builds structures of enduring quality and value throughout northern and central California.  The company’s experience encompasses a broad cross-section of commercial, industrial and institutional building types, including education, healthcare, technology, life sciences, professional services and civic/community facilities.  Blach is also a recognized leader in sustainable design and construction.  The company is based in the Silicon Valley, with full-service regional offices in Roseville and Monterey.  For more information, find us on LinkedIn and Facebook.
