Historic Renovations and Site Improvements
Blach completed its construction restoration work for the Mission to restore the historic Basilica in 2013. The project included a detailed 3D scan of the attic space and catenary roof using laser-point scanning by Faro Technologies to map the interior upper space. This Building Information Modeling tool, and the resulting model, helped the Blach team to minimize construction impacts on the building by reducing exposure and pre-cutting building materials for faster installation.
In 2011, Blach Construction was selected by the Carmel Mission Foundation to preserve the historic mission church, rectory and school. The Basilica Church, a registered National Historic Landmark, is the centerpiece of the Mission. Upon entering, visitors are usually struck by its catenary ceiling, thirty foot reredos and five foot thick walls.
The Missions fine collection of Spanish Colonial Liturgical Art and Artifacts are displayed through the church.
