World's Most Advanced Recycling Plant

Blach completed the renovation of an 80,000 s.f. recycling facility at Newby Island in Milpitas for Republic Services, one of the country's largest waste services providers, in the summer of 2012. 

The building houses the world’s most sophisticated Material Recovery Facility (MRF), with the intent of recycling at least 80% of waste material collected from San Jose businesses.  The recycling plant can process up to 420,000 tons of waste annually. 

SurroMed, Inc

Laboratory & Office Renovation

Blach performed general construction services for SurroMed, Inc., a pioneering biomarker-enabled drug discovery and development company.  

Blach delivered this 25,000 s.f. laboratory and office renovation project within an aggressive seven-week construction schedule.  

The project included the installation of three new air handlers, one chiller, and one boiler with two fan units while re-roofing 15,000 s.f. with power and data upgrades throughout the lab areas. 

Sacred Heart Community Service

The Heart House Community Building

The new 22,000 s.f., partial two-story facility features a turn-of-the-century architectural style.  The building houses SHCS’ food and clothes distribution areas, education and computer training programs, pre-school and daycare center, shelter placement, Head Start program and administrative offices.

Historical Renovation

CAW Architects and Blach were selected by the Guild to prepare a schematic design and feasibility study to assist the Guild in its decision-making and fundraising process.

For nearly five years, the trio worked closely to navigate the many regulatory, community and financial challenges associated with the project, resulting in the approval by the City Council to renew the 70-year-old site.
