Fremont Union High School District(FUHSD) recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Voyager Campus located at Lynbrook High School. The dedicated facility housing one of the district’s special education programs was designed by Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) and built by Blach Construction (Blach), providing an enhanced learning environment for students.

“The new Voyager Campus represents our commitment to providing the best possible educational environment for all of our students,” said Graham Clark, superintendent, Fremont Union High School District. “The project team was able to deliver on our vision of improved and specialized spaces that will allow our students and staff in the Voyager program to feel truly valued and inspired.”

The nearly 7,000 sq.ft. new facility is a single building thoughtfully split into two wings—an administration wing and classroom wing—linked by a shared internal courtyard and single roof structure. The inner courtyard offers students a private space away from the rest of the campus for lunch and quiet study, while also allowing staff to easily supervise students and move between counseling offices and classrooms.

“Our goal for the Voyager Campus was to create a functional yet inviting space that fosters a sense of community and well-being,” said QKA Principal Nick Stephenson. “This project showcases the importance of considering the students at every step, demonstrating how a thoughtfully designed learning space can support their individual needs and ultimately contribute to success.”

Replacing the program’s previous portable buildings, the new Voyager Campus was designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating open air breezeways and plentiful natural light, and meeting Title 24 energy requirements.

“We’re proud to have partnered with Fremont Union High School District and QKA to bring the Voyager Campus to life,” said Amber Emery, project executive at Blach Construction. “Our team was able to incorporate several unique building elements, including the exposed steel beam roof structure, which is not only aesthetically pleasing, but seamlessly connects the administration and classroom wings.”

FUHSD’s Voyager Campus is now open to students for the 2025-26 school year.
