San Jose, Calif. – (April 24, 2013) – Blach Construction Company, a commercial building contractor and construction manager serving Northern California, Sacramento and the Central Coast, was recently awarded the construction of a new fitness and classroom building complex at Evergreen Valley College, located in south San Jose.
Out-scoring four top contractors in a competitive selection process, Blach was awarded the construction of the state-of-the-art fitness center and two-story academic and laboratory classroom building, designed by long-time design partner HMC Architects. The 58,000 s.f. development, valued at $40 million, will help meet the needs of the College’s growing student population, which now exceeds 30,000 students.
“This project allows Blach to continue an already successful relationship with San Jose/Evergreen Community College District, which originally began with the Fine Arts Building at San Jose City College,” said Bryan Rosevear, Blach project executive. “Our experience in the community college market will be key to delivering a great facility to the students.”
The new facility, located in the northern half of the sports fields, is the largest project to be built as part of the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District’s master plan for the 175-acre campus. Currently in design development, the project is expected to break ground in the Spring of 2014 and reach completion by September 2015.
The complex includes 14 large lecture classrooms, six science laboratories and a fitness center with adjacent office, locker rooms and reception area. In addition, the new facility was designed using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, supporting the campus’ ongoing commitment to sustainability. Design principles such as optimized energy performance, water-efficient landscaping and maximum use of day lighting will be featured and may be utilized as a teaching tool.
