After completing preconstruction in July 2012, the District extended Blach’s contract to perform construction services for the $13 million project, located at the Monte Vista High School Campus.

The facility is sponsored by Dave Duffield, co-founder and co-CEO of Pleasanton-based Workday, a leading enterprise-class, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions company. Construction began in the beginning of August and is scheduled to finish by July 2013. Continuing a decades-long relationship, Blach is partnering with San Jose-based design firm Steinberg Architects to build the Workday Student Center.

“We are very excited to help bring this new landmark building to the Monte Vista campus,” said Blach Project Executive Ken Schroeder. “The architect has designed a wonderful facility that will not only enhance the academic environment, but will also create a central gathering place for students and faculty.”

Situated at the top of a hillside campus, the new, 18,400 square-foot Workday Student Center will replace the existing 7,000 square-foot Library, built in 1964. The building seeks to create a modern indoor/outdoor learning environment that uses the design of social spaces to strengthen traditional learning methods. Features of the new space include a library, multimedia center, four study/collaboration rooms, a café, student store, meeting rooms and open-seating/lounge areas.
