Transit-Oriented Mixed-Use Development Will be One of Largest in Bay Area

“Transit-oriented development has become essential to accommodating the Bay Area’s rapid and ongoing growth. Gateway at Millbrae Station will be critical to alleviating both the shortage of housing and the severe traffic congestion we are facing today. We are proud to be joining forces with Cahill to deliver this iconic project that will greatly enhance the Millbrae community and the Bay Area overall,” said Blach President Dan Rogers.

Blach Construction recently celebrated the start of construction of the $400 million dollar Gateway at Millbrae Station alongside joint venture partner Cahill Contractors LLC. Investment partners Republic Family of Companies and Principal Real Estate Investors will finance and develop the project. The new community will integrate much-needed market-rate and affordable housing, office, retail and entertainment/hospitality space with the Millbrae BART station – the Bay Area’s most highly trafficked public transportation hub, which also services Caltrain.

With construction expected to complete in summer 2022, Gateway at Millbrae Station will bring an enhanced BART commuter experience with improved station access and safety. Amenities will feature 157,000 square feet of office space, 400 rental homes, including 100 affordable units, 80 of which are Veteran preferred, 44,000 square feet of quality retail and dining space, along with hotel lodging. New public open spaces, plazas, pedestrian/bike paths and a dog park for the surrounding community will round out the development.

“Gateway at Millbrae Station is a community-shaping project that will bring transit-oriented housing, and vibrant amenities to the heart of Millbrae. As this development takes shape, the Blach / Cahill team remains focused on a phased approach that will keep the BART station open to all who depend on it,” said Kathryn Cahill Thompson, CEO of Cahill. “Blach is a valuable joint venture partner and we look forward to bringing Gateway at Millbrae Station to life with them.”
